Cacao

Cacao translates to “Food of the Gods” in Central and South America, and is regarded as a sacred plant, used medicinally and ceremonially by the Aztecs and the Mayans for thousands of years. Ceremonial grade cacao, typically sourced from Central and South America, means that the beans are grown by local tribes, harvested with love and prepared with intention to heal.

The seeds of the cacao tree are bitter to the taste and must be fermented to develop the flavor. After fermentation, the beans are dried, cleaned, and roasted. The shell is removed, and then the cacao nibs from inside are then stone grounded and set into a block paste.

Cacao is a superfood and a spiritual aid, rich in antioxidants and nutrients. Considered a "Heart opener" in which you can literally feel yourself open up, giving you more space for self-love, compassion, and forgiveness. Allowing for more creativity, focus, and motivation. And helps create a greater connection with body and spirit.

Cacao superfood and spiritual aid

  • A natural mood lifter, cacao can help with easing depression and releasing negativity

  •  Anandamide (the "bliss molecule" a gentle mood booster)

  • magnesium (relief of muscle tension)

  • Theobromine (energizing) which translates into “Food of the gods” – similar to caffeine in terms of energetic   impact but with a gentler effect on the central nervous system. Theobromine increases energy without the anxious “buzz” one gets from caffeine

  • potassium, phosphorous, copper, zinc, and iron which contribute to cardiovascular health

  • can act as an aphrodisiac

With these beautiful properties you will feel, on a physical level more happy, relaxed and open. If you drink cacao and then go about your day, you may hardly notice the subtle differences in your body. If you drink it intentionally in ceremony, creating sacred space, you will feel the difference. With your focus and attention, you can feel more deeply, and feel something energetically.

The cacao offers you the chance to move and transcend negative emotions and assist you in healing through energetic release. If you feel emotional, you may want to cry, if you feel silly you may laugh, and want to giggle, or you may want to sweat and dance or sing. Or you may want to meditate and journal. Whatever you feel is perfect.

Allow for the space to let whatever needs to come through to come. Simply let yourself feel deeply into whatever that is.

Cacao Ceremony

A cacao ceremony is a sacred space that allows you to deeply connect with your inner self and your heart. Whether you are working towards connecting with your truth and purpose, releasing old patterns and traumas, or becoming more open and loving. Once you set your intention with pure awareness, the cacao allows you to deepen your practice and allow for more insights.

First:

Set the space, create a sacred container

Use sage or palo-santo to cleanse the space around you

Listen to beautiful healing music or sing a sweet melody

Ingredients:

1.     1 oz/ 2 tablespoons of ceremonial grade cacao (Keith's cacao)

2.     A cup of hot water

3.     Cayenne and cinnamon (both optional)

(Cayenne is a synergist. It helps increase blood circulation throughout the body allowing cacao to course through your veins with more efficiency.)

4.     Natural sweetner (optional)

5.     For a frothier drink use warmed coconut milk (optional)

6.     Blender safe for hot liquids or whisk in a pot on stove

Prepare:

·       Chop the cacao with a knife into smaller pieces so it softens easily in hot water

·       Heat water to just before a boil. It should be just too hot to the touch but not boiling

·       Add the cacao

·       Add sweetening and spices to taste

·       Use a whisk to stir the brew until it's all the chunks are blended or blend in the blender until frothy

·       Serve hot, give thanks, set intentions, and prepare to enjoy!
